Services & Pricing

IonLab was created to facilitate research in the area of ion channel and transporter function and ionic signaling in immune cell, but is open to any user who studies ion channels and transporters, regardless of cell type or organ system.

Traditional Patch Clamp Systems

State-of-the-art instrumentation equipped to measure electrophysiological responses in cells using multiple patch clamp techniques. Systems are available for brain slice recordings, cultured cell recordings, simultaneous fluorescent calcium transient measurements and activation of mechanosensitive channels.

QPatch II Automated Patch Clamp

Automated patch clamping (whole-cell or cell attached) of up to 48 cells at the same time at physiological temperatures. Microfluidic solution changes for expensive compounds.

SURFE2R N1

Used to measure electronic changes resulting from transporter function based on solid-supported membrane based electropysiology.

FlexStation3

Multi-well plate reader for time-resolved measurement of fluorescence, fluorescence polarization, absorbance and luminescence with programmable liquid handling (FLIPR).

Uses include recordings of intracellular ion (e.g. calcium, potassium) concentrations or flux assays in cells and organelles.

Rodent Brain Slice Capabilities

Patch clamp recordings in brain slices allows unparalleled access to neuronal membrane signals in a system that approximates the in vivo neural substrate, while affording greater control of the experimental conditions. We have the capability to record from specific neuron types in specific brain regions to study intrinsic, synaptic and network properties.

Services & Training

We offer full consultation services to determine experimental feasibility and project design. Instrument use is either self-service (after training) or full-service. We assist in data analysis and interpretation. We also work with investigators to develop budgets for NIH and other grant proposals.

The IonLab offers a training course for the patch-clamp technique. This week-long course includes both didactic and practical sections. We teach the theory of patch-clamping, errors and limitations associated and hands-on training. We boast a 100% success rate with every student, to date! We also offer training on all other systems the IonLab has to offer.
